Johnson sophomore is best rookie golfer

Johnson State College sophomore Tyler Parker of Morrisville was named the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year, and a second-team member of the all-conference team, after finishing in a tie for eighth at the conference golf championships last weekend. The tournament was played at Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono, Maine. Parker shot a first-round 77, good for fifth place in the 35-player field, then shot an 85 on day two to finish eighth. That helped the Johnson State team to a sixth-place finish. Parker, a graduate of Peoples Academy, is majoring in business management. Johnson State reinstated golf this fall; the program had been dropped in 1995. Parker had a tremendous first season of college golf. He earned medalist honors four times this fall, and was the low scorer in each of the Badgers' eight tournaments.
